When choosing your bridal headpiece or veil, keep in mind how you would like to wear your hair. The two go hand in hand. You may be looking to wear your hair style down, this may make it difficult to wear a tiara or to fasten a veil. Here's a few tips when choosing your accessories:
- When browsing for tiaras, check out the piece to see if there is a way to fasten the tiara to the head. Many of these do not come with the proper loops that are needed to secure bobby pins to while placing it into your hair style. Turn the tiara upside down and check for small openings where bobby pins can be slid into to secure the piece. Having these small loops will make a world of difference on how secure your tiara will stay to your updo or hair style.
- Veils often come with a comb attached to place into the updo or hair style. Look at the comb and where the material of the veil meet. Sometimes, the material will overlap the comb if it is of low quality. This can stick out and look strange. Avoid veils that have this extra material.
- When using fresh flowers in the hair style or updo, make sure to tell the florist that these flowers will be going into your hair style and to make the wire as thin as possible. Sometimes, the florist tape is too thick to slide into the hair and can be seen.
- Always have an updo consultation one month prior to wedding date. Any earlier than this and you will be second guessing yourself on your hair style. And always bring your veil and or head pieces with you to this consultation.
- Have the Stylist show your mom or a bridesmaid how the veil or tiara is fastened to your hair. If you choose to remove the veil at the reception, they can easily do this for you.
Best headpeice tip!
If you have a headpeice or veil that has a comb and can't figure out how to fasten it to your hair securly enough, whether it be a down style or updo, here's how:
Step 4.) Style hair as normal. NO ONE will ever see the braided part. Take the headpiece and slide the comb into the braided section. ( If you want the veil cascading down the back of your head, insert the comb up in to the style, if you want the veil puffy at the top with a little height or if the veil is to flow over the head and face, insert the comb from the top, going down.) It might seem a little tight but it will loosen slightly over time. You can pin with bobby pins for added security.

Step1.) BEFORE your hair is styled, pinpoint where the piece will be inserted into the style on your head. Lets say for example you want to wear the veil directly on the back of your head, just at the crown area.
Step 2.) One inch down from top crown of the head, take a horizontal parting and lift hair up and forward and pin to top of the head so it's out of your way.
Step 3.) Braiding the section. The braid should be about 3 inches wide and 1/4 to 1/2 inches long across the back of your head. Start at one end and braid as close and as tight to the scalp as possible. Fasten with a small, thin elastic.
