The dreaded frizzies! We all have this hair dilemma at one time or another. But some women have it worse and more often than others. So you make your way to the local pharmacy and down the aisles full of endless bottles that promise sleek beautiful carefree hair. There are balms, and lotions. Spritzes and creams. So what do you choose? Here’s our breakdown of the best frizz fighting products starting from washing to finishing that actually do what they claim.
Shampoo to smoothing cream: how to choose the best hair care for frizzy hair.
First step, washing the frizz away
Frizz is caused by the cuticle of each individual hair strand swelling and opening. Think of a rolled up Christmas tree. That’s smooth hair. When you release the ropes and let the branches fly open, that’s what a frizzy cuticle looks like. So, starting with shampoo and conditioner, you want to close the cuticle down. You do this by using an acidic shampoo. Sounds scary huh? Not at all. An acidic shampoo has a lower PH level and will cause the cuticle layers to lay flat to give you frizz free hair.
Leave in humidity and frizz controller
Avoid silicone based products such as serums. Silicones do block humidity but they build up on hair causing breakage and split ends with prolonged use. Opt for a cream or oil based leave in humidity and frizz fighting hair product.
Frizz fighting finishing product
Most women skip this step because most finishing products leave hair weighed down and greasy looking. Once again, stick with a cream or oil based frizz fighter. Apply a very small amount to palms, rub hands together until the product all but disappears. Then starting at the ends, work your way up your hair. Never start applying at your roots first.
