Flat irons aren't just used for straightening hair. You can create beautiful, full curls with an iron. Curling your hair with a flat iron is simple once you get the hang of it. Flat irons smooth the hair while curling so there's no need to straighten hair before you curl. And the curls will last much, much longer with a straightening iron because of the high heat involved. With a little practice, you can have "big, gorgeous celebrity hair" in no time!
Tip: The bigger section of hair you try to curl at once, the looser the curls will be. The smaller the section, the tighter the curls will be

Take a section on once side and hold it out. Take the flat iron and hold it straight up and down. Grab the hair with the iron near the root, starting at top. Close the iron and in the same swift movement, Rotate your wrist forward or backward, whichever way you choose. Slid the iron down your hair. Don't go too fast or too slow. Clamp the hair and at once, rotate wrist and move the iron down the hair. This should all be one swift movement. If you stop, you'll get a crimp. If so, start over. Finish this side and the other.

How to Curl your hair with Flat Iron
Loose, wavy curls with a Flat Iron
Before we start with directions on how to curl your hair with an iron, let's go over a few things: First and and most important, you need an iron no bigger than 1 inch. Some will say you can go bigger, but I find irons that are no bigger than an inch work the best and create perfect, loose flowing waves. Next you'll also need a heat protection shine spray. this helps protect the hair from the heat and smooth the cuticle. You'll also need a good hair clip because you'll be starting at the bottom of your hair, working your way up while curling.
Step two:
Now with the bottom done, take a section from temple to temple and pin the rest of the hair to the top of the head. Like before, split the hair and pull all forward. Now take a section from the very back of the head and pull straight out again. Curl the piece of hair. Then move forward to another chunk of hair. Each side should take 3-4 curls depending on the size of curl you want. Next, move on the the other side and repeat.
Step three:
Now take down the rest of the hair and once again, split head in half, pulling hair forward. Grab back section and curl, working to the front. Finish other side.

Tip: For added volume on top, instead of holding hair section out to side, hold hair straight up and down and place iron at root, twist and pull upwards.
Before you start to curl the hair, practice holding and moving the flat iron. Hold it in front of you, straight up and down. Now twist your wrist so the iron rotates half way around. Now lower your hand while your wrist and iron is still twisted. This is the movement you will use to curl the hair. Don't worry if the iron is slanted to the side a little and not straight up and down. So Clamp, Twist and Slid Down
Step one:
You'll be starting with dry hair. No need to straighten hair before, as this sometimes makes it difficult for the hair to curl. Section hair starting from the bottom. Take the section of hair from ear to ear and clip the rest on top of your head. Now split the section in half, puiling each side to the front, hanging past your chin.
Learning how to curl and wave your hair with a flat iron takes time. But once you get the hang of it it's simple!
