HOME > NAILS  HOME >> Artificial Nails: Acrylic nails
What are Acrylic nails?
Acrylic nails are the most popular of all artificial nails. As with all artificial nails, acrylic nails can be used as an overlay over your natural nail to avoid breakage or used with nail tips to lengthen nails. Acrylic nails are the strongest and last the longest of all the nail overlays. But, if  Acrylic nails aren't done well, Acrylic nails can look thick and artificial.
How to apply Acrylic nails
Acrylic nails are created by combining a powdered acrylic product, called a polymer, with a liquid acrylic product, called a monomer using a brush made for acrylic nail applications. Tips, if used are applied to the natural nails and buffed so the product can adhere to the nail. The brush is then dipped into the acrylic liquid, then into the powder, forming a small ball at the end of the brush. The ball in then placed on the nail and spread to create a layer of acrylic. 1 or 2 more layers are applied. then the nail is shaped and buffed smooth.
Benefits of Acrylic nails
Acrylic nails need to be filled every 2-3 weeks depending on your natural nail growth. It's best if you set up 2 or 3 appointments ahead of time. This will ensure that you do not let your acrylics overgrow which can result in lifting. See Artificial nails for more artificial nail tips.
