Artificial Nails: Silk, Linen and Fiber Wraps
Nail wraps are applied to the natural nail bed to strengthen and protect natural nails from breaking and splitting. Silk, linen and fiberglass are the three main types of wraps. The application process consist of cutting a small piece of the fabric wrap material and gluing it to the natural nail bed, then filling to create a smooth finish.
Silk wraps are the most natural looking of the three wraps. However, they are also the least strongest. It is also said to be the best as silk allows air to still reach the natural nail.
How to remove silk, linen and fiberglass nail wraps:
Fiberglass nail wraps provide the natural look of silk wraps and the strength of linen wraps. Thus making fiberglass nail wraps the most popular type of wrap.
Linen is the strongest of the three wraps. However, most women do not like the thick, white appearance of the linen. When linen wraps are applied, you must wear nail polish to hide the stark white color.
All nail wraps need to be maintained. A weekly manicure appointment is best. As the glue, used to adhere the wraps, ages, the nail wrap may lift on the free edges near the top and sides of the nail. A weekly appointment can keep the wraps in place.
Removing nail wraps is quite simple. Soak your fingers in acetone nail polish remover. It must be acetone which will remove the nail glue. Soak for a minute then use a soaked cotton ball to wipe away. You may need to repeat this step several times to remove the glue and nail wraps. Buff nails when all product is removed.
