We all know how nerve racking it can be walking into a new place, especially a hair salon. Hair salons, for the most part, have a club-type feel. Once you've had your first service, you're now an honorary member of the club. Here's some tips to choosing a great hair salon:
- Check it out in person. Browse the product shelves; see how clean it is and if it has the style and feel you're looking for.
- Call the hair salon and ask for a price list. The worst thing about a new hair salon is not knowing the prices. You're used to a $20.00 cut and when you go to check out, you find out the price is $35.00. Some salons charge for every service separately. For example, a wash could go for $10.00 and a cut for $20.00 bringing your total up to $30.00. I could never understand this. Most clients want to save a little money so they opt to skip the shampoo service. Personally, I would rather give it free and know that I'm cutting clean hair. So be sure to know what you're getting into before hand.
- Listen to the receptionist well. Does she seem helpful? If not, keep looking. If a manager can't even keep her receptionist in check, how do you think the Stylists are?
- Call around. Get price lists of each hair salon. And don't judge a salon by it's prices. For example, if a salon charges only $30.00 for a color and cut, it may be too good to be true. On the other hand, if a hair salon charges $90.00 for both, this doesn't mean that they will give you a better service than the $30.00 salon. Unfortunately it's a guessing game at first. Try a simple wash and blow dry first, before you jump into hair color.
- How are the Stylists dressed? Do they have make-up on or their hair done? If they don't take the time to do up themselves, they probably won't take the time for you. Checkout Choosing a new Stylist
