• Ask you current Hair Stylist if she can recommend someone. The hardest thing for a Stylist to do is recommend someone else for her/his beloved clients. However, if they are leaving for good, you can count on a good, honest recommendation of a new Hair Stylist.

  • Ask your friends, family, co-workers or anyone else you can think of, if they have a Hair Stylist they like.

You've finally found a great Hair stylist. One who knows your hair color down pat, knows that a 1/2 inch means a 1/2 inch, and knows that you are a fanatic about being out on time. And then they  tell you they're leaving the salon. What now? Do you follow them to thier new hair salon? Do you stick with your old salon, or go hunting around for a new place?

  • Don't have a chemical service or a cut on your first visit. Instead, have a wash and style to get the feel of how that particular hairdresser works and how her/his repore is with you.

  • If you're changing salons, go to the salon and check it out. That doesn't mean sit in the waiting area for hours. Look around, browse the product shelves and get a feel of the place. Notice how the receptionist treats the clients signing in. This is a good indication of how you'll be treated in general.
  • Don't be afraid to ask questions. Make an appointment for a consultation. Ask about credentials and ask to see a portfolio if possible. Believe me, I wish every new client of mine would ask for a consultation first. It gives the hair hairdresser time to get to know you as well as you getting to know her/him.

  • If you're going to go to your friend's Stylist, go with her on her next hair appointment. See how the hair Stylist works and if you like his/her method of hair styling. Just because your friend loves her/him, you may not. So this is a good way to tell before hand.

  • If you try out a new hairdresser and don't care for her/him, don't be afraid not to make another hair appointment. Just casually tell them you'll call for the next appointment. This leaves your options open.
